Random Name Picker

Start with a Names preset, replace the examples with your group, and pick a random name with a spin.

Names for classrooms and teams

Use the name picker for classroom participation, meeting turns, game roles or a task owner. For a giveaway, check eligibility and your selection rules before adding names. Orbit selects from the list you provide; it does not check eligibility for you.

When everyone should have one chance, include each person once and keep weights equal. To choose several different people, enable removal after each result. The picker selects one name per spin, so assigning whole teams is a sequence of choices.

Pick a name

  1. Replace the example names with your own list.
  2. Check for duplicates and missing participants.
  3. Spin to select one name.
  4. Use local history to review your results, or spin again for the next turn.

Make it your own

Add images to entries, adjust weights, choose a template, or use fullscreen for a group. Import and export your choices, and download a .orbit backup to keep your local wheels and images. Creating a share link publishes a separate read-only snapshot; recipients can make their own copy. No account is required.

After an online visit activates the service worker, the local tools work offline. Creating or opening a new remote share link still requires a connection. Keep a backup before clearing browser storage.

How Orbit chooses a result

Orbit uses browser Web Crypto to select a result before the animation begins. The wheel or strip then lands on that already selected result; its movement does not decide the winner. With weighted entries enabled, larger weights give an entry a larger share of the selection probability. Coin Flip uses two equally likely outcomes.

Random selection is useful for everyday choices. It does not guarantee a particular outcome or replace the rules and eligibility checks of a giveaway.
