Orbit

How Orbit Works

A setup defines the possible outcomes. Orbit chooses a result, then presents it. The animation explains the choice visually; it does not make it.

Wheel, Roulette and Coin

Wheel selects one entry from your list. Horizontal Roulette presents an entry on a moving strip and uses the same selection principles. Enabled weights make an entry's chance proportional to its positive weight. Coin Flip has two fixed, equally likely outcomes: Heads and Tails.

The initial Wheel rotation and Roulette drift stop at your first real spin. Subsequent spins begin from the current position. Reduced motion disables that introductory movement and limits result animation. Pointer landing variation remains inside the selected segment and does not select a different result.

Numbers, teams, dice and quick answers

Number Picker samples whole numbers on a stepped range. Unique sampling avoids replacement; repeated sampling makes independent draws. Team Generator securely shuffles participants and distributes them so group headcounts differ by at most one. It does not balance skill.

Dice Roller samples each die independently from 1 through its side count and adds a modifier once to the total. Yes / No samples equally among two or three enabled labels. These utilities use the existing bounded Web Crypto sampler, which rejects draws that would bias a remainder operation.

Data, backups and sharing

Wheel metadata lives in localStorage and its images in IndexedDB. The four additional utilities use a separate bounded localStorage record. A full .orbit backup includes both families of tools and their images. Exporting one wheel excludes other wheels and utility history.

Remote wheel links hold a separate read-only snapshot in Orbit's server-side stores. Number, dice and quick-answer links encode only their small configurations in the URL. Neither kind of share publishes your local result history. Make a copy creates an editable local setup.

When there is no connection

Once the service worker is active, the application and help pages are available offline. Remote shares need internet for a first fetch, publishing or deletion. Updates wait for a reload so a running selection is not replaced halfway through. If storage is disabled or full, review the error and export useful data before clearing anything.
